Manchester United Open Contract Talks With £50,000-A-Week Star

Posted on October 17th, 2017

Although Marcus Rashford signed a new deal with Manchester United sometime in May 2016, the said deal is said to run till 2020 but new reports have it that the in-form striker and Manchester United are in talks for a further renewal of the deal. As of the time of writing this article, the Englishman has scored 5 goals for Manchester United and this is despite the fact that he plays most on the left flank.

With just three more years to run on his current deal and how expensive it will be for the Red devils to bring in a replacement, one can understand why the club is keen on extending his deal. Bookmakers such as 888Sport are already taking odds on the young lad signing the new deal which is good news for Manchester United fans. The 20-year-old has helped Manchester United win all but two of their games so far this season and is likely to be at the Russia 2018 world cup with England next summer.

Many had thought the arrival of former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku at the club will reduce Rashford’s start chances with Manchester United but the player has instead reinvented himself and has been a solid player for United and Jose Mourinho on the left side of attack.

It appears the arrival of Romelu Lukaku and his wonderful performance for United so far this season and the seemingly rediscovery of form by Anthony Martial has helped Rashford push on his game. Although not in the class of Mbappe, Dembele and Kane but Rashford is certainly not far off and it is only but a matter of time before the likes of Real Madrid, Barca, PSG, Bayern Munich and the likes start knocking on the door in a bid to sign him.

Rashford is reportedly on a £50k a week contract at the moment clubs like PSG, City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barca and even Juventus can easily entice him with offers of big money if United do not manage to get his deal renewed. If the likes of Sterling can be getting as much as £200,000 a week, it is just a matter of them before the representatives of Rashford start asking for a better deal.

By extending his deal, Manchester United will be putting themselves in a position of strength whenever the money bags come calling for him as a long term contract means they won’t have to be forced to sell. This is one mistake Arsenal has made with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil which could well help United sign Mesut Ozil on a free transfer next summer or even a cut-price deal in January.
