Popular Players

It’s possible to view a list of the most popular players on Starting Eleven over the life of the site, but it would be interesting to see who are the most popular players for season 2014/15, and how that compares to the all time list.

The top ten of players of all time are:

  1. David De Gea (Manchester United)
  2. Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
  3. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
  4. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
  5. Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)
  6. Juan Mata (Manchester United)
  7. Luke Shaw (Manchester United)
  8. Phil Jones (Manchester United)
  9. Robin van Persie (Manchester United)
  10. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid)

The top ten players this season are:

  1. David De Gea (Manchester United)
  2. Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
  3. Phil Jones (Manchester United)
  4. Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)
  5. Juan Mata (Manchester United)
  6. Luke Shaw (Manchester United)
  7. Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
  8. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
  9. Robin van Persie (Manchester United)
  10. Marcos Rojo (Manchester United)

The top tens are very similar, with Rojo displacing Bale in 10th place.

There is a heavy Manchester United slant on both the all time top ten and this season’s. Only the inclusion of Messi and Ronaldo stop it being ten out of ten. Looking outside the top ten for other players of other clubs, Liverpool are represented by Sterling and Sturridge, at places 15th and 20th respectively. The Bundesliga is represented by Bayern Munich’s Neuer at 17th and Dortmund’s Hummels at 19th.

It will be interesting to see if the United trend continues into next season, or whether there will be a more even spread of teams represented. Being third favourite to win the Premier League next season in William Hill’s Premier League betting, might mean Manchester United remain a popular choice.

Popular Formations

The top five formations are as follows:

4-4-2 (Diamond)

4-5-1 (attacking)

We did add a few new formations towards the end of the season, so the top five may look different next season.

If there is a specific formation that you would like added to Starting Eleven, don’t be shy and tell us about it via our contact form.

Popular Kits

With Manchester United proving so popular when it comes to individual players, it comes as no surprise that the red kit is the most popular this season. The kits are displayed in order or popularity, left to right.

If there are a specific kit colour / style that you feel is missing from Starting Eleven, feel free to contact us and request it.

The final round of Premier League ties take place this weekend, so why not build your starting eleven and show others how you think your team should line up.
